What is an integrated management system (IMS)?

An integrated management system runs two or more management standards (quality, environmental, health & safety, information security) as one coordinated system, sharing the processes they have in common instead of duplicating them across separate silos.

Learn · ISO basics

The idea in one minute.

Most organisations don't need three or four parallel systems. They need one system that satisfies several standards at once, because the standards already share most of their structure. iQuotient is built as IMS software on exactly that shared structure, so ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001 records live in one connected system.

One system, several standards

Instead of a separate manual, audit and review cycle per standard, an IMS keeps one set of shared processes that every standard draws on.

Shared vs standard-specific

Document control, internal audit, risk, management review and improvement are shared. Each standard then adds only what is unique to it.

Built on a common backbone

Integration works because every modern ISO standard follows the same high-level structure (Annex SL). That shared spine is what lets them lock together.

Why organisations adopt one

Less duplication and lower cost, a single audit programme, aligned objectives, and one honest view of risk across the whole operation.

The difference

Four systems, or one?

The same standards, two very different ways to run them. Toggle to see why integration wins.

ISO 14001ContextLeadershipPlanningSupportOperationEvaluationImprovement
ISO 45001ContextLeadershipPlanningSupportOperationEvaluationImprovement

The same seven clauses, built and audited four times. Documents drift apart, effort multiplies, and no one sees risk across the whole business.

One set of shared processes on a single Annex SL backbone. Each standard adds only what is unique to it: one audit cycle, one honest view of risk across the whole operation.

In iQuotient

iQuotient is an IMS, by design.

iQuotient runs ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001 on one Annex SL backbone, integrated, but not flattened. Each standard keeps its own scope, evidence and audit trail.

Questions

Integrated Management System (IMS) Guide.

What does "integrated management system" mean?
It means running more than one management standard, for example ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001, as a single coordinated system that shares common processes like document control, audits, risk and management review, rather than as separate parallel systems.
Which standards can be integrated?
Any of the modern ISO management system standards, because they share the same Annex SL high-level structure. iQuotient covers ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environment), 45001 (health & safety) and 27001 (information security), one standard or any approved combination.
Is an IMS just one big merged system?
No. A good IMS is integrated, not flattened: shared processes are unified, but each standard keeps its own scope, evidence and audit trail, so a surveillance audit for one standard stays clean and distinct.
Do we need all four standards to start?
No. You can begin with a single standard and add others later on the same backbone, the shared processes are already there, so expanding scope doesn't mean starting again.
